Frequently Asked Questions

Membership

If I join the Society during the year how long will I have access to the Library? The membership year runs from January to December, and subscriptions are due in January annually. If you join, for example, in March your membership will expire at the end of December that year. Members are not entitled to use the Library until their annual subscription has been paid, so you will need to renew in January in order to continue to access the Library.

What happens if I join the Society at the beginning of the Academic year? New members who join after 1 September may either join for that year and receive the print journals published in November, or join for the following year, in which case they can use the Library, borrow books and enjoy the other benefits from the date of joining, but will not receive their print journals until the November of the following year. For example a member joining the Society in September 2024 can either:

  • join for 2024 and receive the 2024 publications, with access to the library until January 2025 or
  • join in advance for 2025 and receive the 2025 publications, with access to the library from September 2024 to January 2026.

If joining between September and December please indicate clearly on the paper application form whether you wish to join for the current or next year. If you join online between September and December we will assume that you would prefer to join for the following year unless you contact us (secretary@hellenicsociety.org.uk).
